王长林所在的侦察大队和萨文泊所在的国民党起义部队被整合到一起，成立了南海武工队，代号红鲨。主要任务是配合解放军攻占华南沿海诸岛屿。萨文泊的妹妹萨文澜作为家属一起来到武工队，因为不适应军队的生活方式，显得格格不入。武工队队员缺乏海洋知识，出生海军世家的萨文澜发挥所长，当上了文化教员。在经历过登门岛大败的惨痛教训后，武工队总结经验，正视不足，逐渐具备了海岛作战能力，先后完成了为大部队登岛搜集船只、策反守岛敌军、摧毁岛上油库等任务。解放军成功解放海南岛和万山群岛之后，南海武工队番号撤销，王长林、萨文泊等人被编入海军。

She has thus left politics, and is now a highly-paid speaker in the business world.
